Chapter 311: Meeting in Gudu

Update 4/4 today!

Only when the clock almost struck 10 PM did Yu Zhan arrive at Gudu. When he got off the airplane, he hurriedly rushed to Liu Man’s hotel and called her in the lobby.

Liu Man felt surprised and joyful after receiving the call, and she hurriedly rode the elevator down. As soon as the elevator’s doors opened, she saw a familiar silhouette standing a few steps away, looking at her and smiling.

She hurriedly strode to him.

“Man Man, sorry…” Before Yu Zhan could finish speaking, she abruptly threw herself into his arms and embraced him tightly. It was her first time taking the initiative to be close to him, and Yu Zhan, who was used to taking the initiative, had not adapted to the change and was startled. He then smiled, raised a hand, and petted the top of her head, his eyes full of tenderness.

They were in a public space. It was not too late. Many guests were entering and exiting the elevator, and others were still checking in in the lobby.

Everyone could not help but look at this couple—not because they had not seen a man and a woman embracing in public, but because this couple was particularly good-looking and pleasing to the eye.

Liu Man had finished taking a shower and was wearing conservative beige-colored pajamas. Because she was in such a hurry to see Yu Zhan, she had not even bothered to change out of her pajamas, and her shoulder-length hair remained down, but she was still breathtakingly beautiful.

Yu Zhan could not hide his handsome appearance despite looking exhausted.

“Did you know you scared me to death?” Liu Man grabbed the lapel in front of his chest and lifted her head to look at him. Her large eyes looked aggrieved and worried.

“Didn’t I tell you that I would explain to you in detail tonight?”

Liu Man felt angry as soon as this matter was mentioned, “It was as if you vanished from the world after you said that. Do you know how many times I called you?!!”

Yu Zhan quickly coaxed her, “That was my fault. You can blame me. At that time, I was at the police station with your mother and left my phone in the clinic. Later on, I panicked and dealt with other things. I thought I would directly come to Gudu to talk to you in person.”

“Did you get hurt?” Liu Man released him and examined whether any part of his body had been injured. She saw from the surveillance video that those people surrounded Yu Zhan as if forming a wall. Every one of them raised their phone, and she could not see at all what they had done to him.

“I’m really okay, except for feeling a bit tired.”

Yu Zhan said before uncontrollably yawning.

After so many things had happened in one day and flying from the capital to Gudu, he had not rested for a single minute. Liu Man felt distressed for him, “Have you booked a room?”

“No. I’ve just arrived and wanted to see you first.”

“Hurry and make a room reservation.”

Liu Man dragged him to the front desk. They were booking a room!

The duo arrived at the new room together. Liu Man sat on the chair and watched as Yu Zhan unpacked the daily necessities from his suitcase with one hand supporting her chin. He came in such a rush this time that he only brought two sets of clothes to change into and toiletries.

“You didn’t have to come from so far away,” Liu Man said.

“If I don’t come and you don’t perform well tomorrow, I would feel so guilty.”

Liu Man snorted softly, “You don’t have such a huge influence on me.”

“Oh? Who said on Weibo that she feels apologetic and wants to receive the attacks on my behalf?” Yu Zhan teased her with a smile, but deep affection was conspicuous in his eyes.

Liu Man’s eyes blinked unnaturally, and she lowered her head. Yu Zhan saw her reddened ears.

He took her hand, pulled her into his arms, and chuckled in her air, “What happened to your courage when you said ‘let me be your target?’ You are such a silly girl. How could I let you bear the storm and rain? As long as I’m here, you don’t have to do anything.”

TL’s Note: The “storm and rain” refers to the attack and maliciousness from the netizens.

Liu Man leaned into his arms and asked, “What are you planning to do after such a farce? That person, who is competing against ye Ziliang, seems to have a background.”

“He does have some capability,” Yu Zhan did not deny it.

He Lushen, who could not reach Yu Zhan during most of the day, was no less worried than Liu Man and Ye Ziliang. During this time, when he lost contact with Yu Zhan, he asked his subordinates to investigate the whole story and soon obtained the results.

He told Yu Zhan that he knew Guo Nan.

Guo Nan’s background was similar to that of Tang Tu. His father was a new member of the upper-class society, so he could successfully enter the Forbidden City to film his documentary, and the National Channel created a tailor-made position for him to help him get promoted.

Apart from relying too much on the resources brought to him by his parents, Guo Nan himself had no dark spots. He did not take drugs and did not engage in illegal activities, safely growing up by his parents’ side. After graduating from the Undergraduate Directing Department of the Capital Film Academy, he went on vacation for half a year before directly joining the documentary department of the National Channel. He was only one year older than Tao Zhiyao.

Guo Nan did such a thing because he was too young and competitive. Yu Zhan could not deal with Guo Nan as he had dealt with Zhu Xiyang. Fighting head-to-head would cause both sides to lose in the end.

He told Liu Man, “He hired one water army company, but I found three and paid them enough money. My number one title on the hot search leaderboard results from their spamming.”

Liu Man said curiously, “What are you planning to do next?”

“Competing with his water army is enough to deal with him. He will be hoisted by his own petard and naturally ruin his reputation in the end. As for the mastermind who planned the trouble in my clinic…”

Liu Man interrupted him and said with confusion, “Isn’t Guo Nan the mastermind?”

“Guo Nan’s opponent is Ye Ziliang and not me. There’s no need for him to be so malicious toward me. Do you understand?” Yu Zhan said as he looked into Liu Man’s eyes.

Liu Man instantly understood, “Must be another veterinarian.”

Yu Zhan petted her head, “You’re smart enough.”

Liu Man evaded his touch and said melancholy, “I’m not Paul.”

“I’m used to it. Paul and your cats all love the way I pet them. Don’t you love it?”

Liu Man: “…” She refused to answer such an embarrassing question.

Yu Zhan assumed she had acquiesced by default and continued to pet her head, saying, “If your mother had not arrived today in time, that crowd could have destroyed my clinic during the chaos. Some people do not want me to do veterinarian business in the capital.”

If Yu Zhan were an ordinary veterinarian who used all his savings to establish a small pet clinic, he probably would not be able to survive any longer in the capital after such a farce.

“You’ve only spoken the truth in the documentary.”

Yu Zhan gave an “mhm” before saying, “The truth is often the most shameful. They are afraid if I were to continue to ‘talk nonsense’ online, I would harm their interests. There are countless vets and pet hospitals in the capital or even across the country, and everyone has always used the conventional method when doing business to make money. Now that I’ve suddenly broken the industry’s rules, they naturally regard me as a thorn in the eye.”

“Then what should you do? How can you fight against a group of people?” Liu Man felt very anxious. Similar to ordinary netizens, she had not considered such a deep-rooted issue when she watched the documentary. She only felt Yu Zhan was a good vet who generously contributed a method to help everyone solve their urgent needs.

“I don’t need to fight them. They’ve already made a mess,” Yu Zhan recalled the four vets they captured today who did not escape in time, “What they did today would cause them to get a dose of their own medicine.”

  1. THANK YOU FOR THE UPDATE! I have some thought about this topic actually. I was thinking about his pricing for Peach’s cat and honestly thought he is severely underpaid. idk how it is in china, but in america, to be a vet, ur in school for ~9 years after HS and vet school is expensive (150k-420k according to google). the ML charged 2x the price of his drugs, so he gained like 600 yuan = ~$100 over the course of a few days of taking care of the cat. that is actually crazy bc idek if he can make rent and pay the nurse with that money. in america, I swear they charge like 6x the drug/products used AND make charge you and extra leg for their service. if this is legit and the ML can make a profit by charging that, then america sucks more than I thought😭

    1. You definitely thought a lot about this😂 I could be wrong, but the vets in China definitely charge a lot, MAYBE up to six times the products used. Getting the necessary equipment and medications is super, super expensive. There’s a severe lack of certified and good vets in China, and most certified vets are greedy, which forces people to pay more so they get actual quality treatment. If the ML is an ordinary vet with a small clinic, he’d be operating at high risk, high cost, and potentially high profit, and it would also be extremely hard for him to gain customers because of all his competitors, ESPECIALLY since the setting is the capital… he’d also have to pay an enormous amount of rent.

Luckily, our ML is secretly incredibly rich and does not mind almost literally burning his money to care for animals. RIP ordinary vets in his position, though.
