VSROWDC Chapter 3 Part 1

VSROWDC is not being dropped, no. C:

The stage sank into grave silence; everyone could see that this was a form of ‘revenge’ from Wei Yichen.

“Ji Zeyu was terrible at the theme song dance. He even brought Xiao Huai down with him that day at the examination,” Wan Long whispered in Lu Nanyun’s ears, “Here comes the farce.”

Lu Nanyun’s face showed no movement, and his expression was blank.

Ji Zeyu’s brain was blank for a few seconds, then started to process the information at the speed of light.

He slowly stood up, walked to the center of the stage with everyone watching, and held up the microphone while smiling: “Thanks for inviting me, Yichen. I’m a bit nervous right now. After all, everyone knows my level of dancing…”

The audience was stunned for a few seconds before realizing he was mocking himself. Bursts of laughter suddenly came from the crowd, and a few contestants also started laughing. The atmosphere suddenly shifted from tension to serenity.

“In order to keep everyone’s eyes from being stained, Yichen can dance first,” Ji Zeyu smiled and said, “I’ll review my moves while he dances so that I don’t forget them.”

The humorous self-deprecating remarks caused the audience, who were initially hostile towards Ji Zeyu, to temporarily put down their prejudice against Ji Zeyu.

“He’s so cute….”

“Actually, I’d accept him as an idol if he doesn’t dance.”

“Yeah, he looks so handsome.”

The music started.

Wei Yichen stood in the center of the stage and started dancing to the beat.

Everyone relaxed as the cheerful theme song played; only Ji Zeyu was in full concentration, and he even started to sweat a little on his forehead—

According to Ji Zeyu’s experience from participating in talent shows, the first and second verses of these theme song dances were identical. He’d have to memorize Wei Yichen’s every move with his naked eye, and he only had one chance.

It was absolutely impossible for ordinary people to memorize every move by simply looking once.

Ji Zeyu knew this, and he didn’t think he’d be able to do it; however, he gave it his all because he knew that the haters in the stream would jump at any opportunity to throw more dirt on his name.

Everyone knew and agreed that Wei Yichen was the best dancer in the show. Not only was his first evaluation grade an A, his grade for the theme song dance was also A. Every move he made was immaculate and beautiful, and he brought up the atmosphere of the room instantly.

After Wei Yichen finished the first half of the dance, the song entered its intermezzo verse. Everyone’s eyes instantly settled on Ji Zeyu; many people were waiting ready to see him make a fool of himself.

Wei Yichen, panting slightly, carried a smile on his face as his tear mole caught much attention. He took the initiative to let Ji Zeyu take the center position of the stage.

Ji Zeyu inhaled deeply in front of everyone, whose attention was all drawn to him. He hid his nervousness and looked up towards the audience with a confident smile.

Under the spotlight, the young lad had a slender body, and his smile added to his handsome and attractive looks. His deep hazel eyes were full of an inexplicable and bewitching charm.

Just as everyone was fazed with Ji Zeyu’s smile, his body swayed slightly under the music, and he started the theme song dance with ease.

At first, no one had any expectations for Ji Zeyu’s performance. Since he had a good attitude while mocking himself, the haters decided to be merciful with their comments as long as the dance wasn’t too awful.

However, ten seconds into the performance, an expression of awe was apparent in everyone’s faces.

Ji Zeyu changed the image of his stiff limbs in the past, and every dance move was completed with perfection. With the British uniform and the smile on his face, he was like sunshine in spring, catching everyone’s attention.

Ji Zeyu performed especially well in the climax of the song. His movements were fluid and precisely on beat. He was not at all inferior to Wei Yichen.

After the dance, the audience went silent for three seconds, then the loud applause and cheers suddenly broke out.

“What the fuck, is this still the Ji Zeyu I know?!”

“Yuyu improved so much, oh my god…”

“What?! Handsome dudes are more handsome when they focus on dancing?! Ah, I’m weak to my knees!”

Lu Nanyun stared at the young lad in the center of the stage with a hint of surprise in his eyes.

At this time, Wan Long whispered in Lu Nanyun’s ears: “Bro, I think I saw Ji Zeyu get some moves wrong. Am I seeing things?”

He was right, Ji Zeyu indeed got some dance moves wrong.

It was impossible for ordinary people to learn a whole dance just by watching it once, and the same went for Ji Zeyu; so he put all his attention on the recognizable dance moves and the climax part of the song. It eases up the difficulty of memorizing it.

Besides these movements, he completely based most of the song on his past ten years of dance experience. For those parts he couldn’t memorize, he replaced them with other movements.

Ji Zeyu had an eight-year battle in talent shows and he deeply understood one rule–

One could make mistakes on the stage, but they should never affect the coherency of the performance.

Thankfully, the audience wasn’t too familiar with the theme song dance; in addition their attention was drawn to Ji Zeyu’s looks, so they didn’t notice anything wrong.

Lu Nanyun also noticed this. At first, he also thought Ji Zeyu was improving quickly, but the few simple moves Ji Zeyu got wrong later on made Lu Nanyun feel like he was hallucinating. How could a loser try hard to improve?

Wei Yichen’s void-like eyes glanced at Ji Zeyu. Obviously, he had the same thoughts as Lu Nanyun.

“Wow, the two participants’ dances are all brilliant!” The host looked at Ji Zeyu, surprised, “Xiao Yu, I’ve just now heard a comment from someone offstage, saying that you’ve improved a lot.”

“Thank you, everyone.”

Ji Zeyu politely bowed at the audience and returned to his seat.

For the rest of the live-stream, nobody else made him perform. Wei Yichen sat right next to Ji Zeyu. Although a smile hung on his face, his eyes seemed to show that he was thinking about something else.

When the marketing summit finally ended, Ji Zeyu hurriedly got away from Wei Yichen. His eyes locked onto Qi Aodong, who was in the crowd, and Ji Zeyu quickly strode over to him, saying: “Let’s go together.”

When Qi Aodong saw Ji Zeyu, he felt strange. He felt like the man in front of him was very unfamiliar. Ji Zeyu, in the past, was arrogant and self-centered. He was too disdained to talk to Qi Aodong, and he didn’t have such good dance skills, like he had shown just now.

To Qi Aodong, compared to Ji Zeyu’s level back at the theme song assessment, the few dance moves he got wrong just now were nothing.

Did Ji Zeyu finally want to start improving?

Qi Aodong slowly started to say: “You…”

He wanted to say, “You improved a lot on your dance,” but he suddenly heard Ji Zeyu’s soft mumbling: “Holy- I’m too good! I really fooled them all.”

“…” Qi Aodong had no words at that moment. The word, “fool,” told him that everything just now was his hallucination.

The cast reserved a huge bus for the participants, letting them return to the TV station together so they could continue filming.
