Chapter 1 – The CEO’s Son

It was a hot summer morning, and golden-yellow sunlight shone in through the thick curtains and chased away the darkness from the clean and comfortable room. On the soft, big bed sat a pretty girl with snowy-white skin. Her hair was messy, and she looked bewildered.

“008! Give me an explanation!” The girl widened her eyes, and her hands were clenching the blanket tightly.

Suddenly, a cold mechanic voice sounded in her head, “Host, please don’t complain, or you’ll have to endure a 10,000-volt electricity zap.”

“…”

“We’re co-workers, and believe it or not, I will sue you!” Fang Jiu clenched her teeth tightly as if she was not afraid of death.

008: “Host, please remind yourself of your identity. You are only a task completer, now. You are no longer one of the staff in Space Admission.

Fang Jiu: “…”

She had never believed in such things as karma, but today, she finally experienced it.

Yes, she used to be a system operator working at Space Admission, and her code name was 006. She was responsible for assisting hosts as they completed tasks in parallel worlds. She wasn’t joking when she claimed that, ever since she became a system operator, every host she had assisted had perfectly completed their missions under her meticulous ‘guidance.’ 006 received the most outstanding staff award in the bureau, and system 008 was probably still figuring out its life.

She didn’t expect someone to stab her in the back and unite every host she had to sue her. What did she do wrong? She was just a bit fierce. She never electrocuted the hosts, no matter how many times she threatened them!

Where could one find systems that are hard on the outside but soft in the heart like her! There must be someone jealous of her; maybe that person was 008!

After she got sued, the director of the bureau was so mad he made her experience the life of a host. And then… She became a host.

That was nothing compared to the mission she got assigned to; it was the hardest task in the Space Admission.

There was no script, no tips, no strategy, no nothing for her… And she still had to complete that kind of mission…

“You already know the mission, so I will not repeat it. As the former-most-outstanding-staff, I hope you will not betray the director’s trust in you.”

Fang Jiu pouted and continued to roll around on the bed, “Apologies, but I’m now a host and not a staff member. Please introduce the mission to me.”

008: “…”

“There is a world in every novel, but now and then there are loopholes that authors never managed to fill in even when they finished writing the entire novel. So, this is where you come in. You will be filling in that loophole and giving a complete ending to the story to make sure the parallel worlds are steady,” The system clenched her teeth as she continued to introduce in an official tone, “This loophole can be big, but it can also be small. Sometimes, you’ll have to find a person, other times you might have to kill someone. But these are all subplots, and the main plot is for you to marry the male lead’s son. Remember, you’ll either need to have a marriage certificate or receive everyone’s recognition. The story will only end when the male lead’s son receives a happy ending.”

Although she already knew what the mission was, Fang Jiu still felt angry. What kind of mission was this? Why wasn’t she targeting the male lead but his son? Was she in the extra chapters of a novel?!

“Okay. The system will not disturb you while you go on your mission. Now, I’ll be disconnecting.” The robotic voice stopped, and Fang Jiu knew the system left her brain waves, but where was her present as a neophyte?!

When she was a system operator, she always prepared a present for a new host. Why didn’t she receive one?!

But no matter how many times she screamed, the system disappeared, and there was not another single sound.

Fang Jiu massaged her head and miserably started to analyze the plot. What could she be scared by? She was an outstanding staff, a professional!

This world was a novel with a CEO male lead. The male lead was the CEO of one of the top five hundred best businesses. He was rich and successful, but he hated women because of his experiences when he was a child. Everyone thought he liked men until the male lead had an arranged marriage with the female lead. The innocent female lead thought he was a homosexual, too, so she married him. She didn’t expect him to fall in love with her. They did become a real couple, and she got pregnant. At this time, the female lead’s family went broke, and the female lead thought the male lead did it. Then came deep sadomasochism. The female lead’s baby miscarried, and she went to another country because of the grief. The second male lead, deep in love with her, accompanied her for many years, and then the female lead came back after her business went successful. The male lead started harassing the female lead, and after more sadomasochism, there was a happy ending with the female lead pregnant again.

The side plot mission was to find a lover for the second male lead who had accompanied the female lead all this time.

As for the male lead’s son…

Jing Lie was twenty-eight. He went to middle school when he was just ten and went to postgraduate study when he was eighteen. When he was twenty-two, he began to manage the family company. He was aloof and stoic, and he was even more merciless than his father when he operated the company. He kicked all of his father’s spies from the company. But of course, he was very respectful to his parents. It even seemed like his life goal was to earn money to give his mother a great life.

The original Fang Jiu was only the secretary of the male lead’s son. She had a high IQ and received the best education, and she was great at dealing with things. Of course, she had a crush on Jing Lie, but she didn’t dare to show it. Jing Lie treated her like an average secretary and didn’t talk to her about anything other than work.

Now it was eight, and she had to go work in just a moment. The original Fang Jiu was near-sighted; she bought contact lenses but thought it uncomfortable, so she wore a pair of black-framed glasses. She was only twenty-five, but she showed a style that only people in their 30s would have. The now Fang Jiu didn’t feel like wearing glasses, so she changed into contact lenses and put down her curly, long hair, which the original owner of this body usually tied up. She put on a light layer of make-up and went to work with her formal professional suit.

When she entered the building, many people were already walking in and out. It was the time when everyone was starting their work.

“’Morning, Secretary Fang,” A male colleague passing by immediately greeted her, and then, as if he was surprised, stared at Fang Jiu for a few extra moments.

Fang Jiu nodded and tried to keep her aloof appearance that the original owner of the body had.

The two female colleagues at the front desk immediately started murmuring as they watched her pass by.

“Did you notice that Secretary Fang took off her glasses?”

“Yeah. She’s now much better looking. Before, she always kept a dull face and looked like my teacher when I was in high school. Hahahahahaha…”

Fang Jiu took the elevator to the ninth floor. At this time, Jing Lie still wasn’t here yet, and Fang Jiu had to prepare the files for today’s meeting. Because the male and female lead would be back from their vacation today, to be honest, Fang Jiu was very curious about how the older version of the male lead would look.

After she organized the files, she realized the sales department still hadn’t given her the sales report from the last season. Seeing it was still early, she put down what she was working on and headed for the third floor so she could get the report.

She pressed on the button beside the elevator. When the doors opened slowly, she rushed in with her high-heels, “Ah!”

Without knowing what she had bumped into, she shrieked as her back hit the elevator doors. The back of her head hurt a lot.

It took her a while to get back on her feet, and when she realized whom she had just bumped into, she immediately stood up straight, “Good morning, President.”

The man in front of her wore a black suit and had a handsome face. Fang Jiu was already tall, but her head only reached this man’s shoulders, and she felt an anonymous suppression in the air.

As he walked out of the elevator, Jing Lie lifted his hand to adjust the buttons on his sleeves but suddenly stopped walking. He turned around to look at the woman standing beside the elevator, “Where are you going?”

This was the first time in two years that Jing Lie realized how his secretary looked.

“Me… I’m going to get something from the sales department.” Fang Jiu dug her fingernails deep into her palm to make herself calmer. Before, she thought her hosts were too sucky because they were nervous when they met their targets. Holy shit, now when she thought about it, the hosts she worked with were quite outstanding. How did they complete their missions in such a short amount of time?!

He glanced at her face, which seemed a little nervous, and his voice was deep, “Don’t you know what telephones are for?”

As he finished his sentence, he turned to head over to his office.

Fang Jiu: “…” Yeah, why didn’t she just make a phone call?

Feeling like she was an idiot, Fang Jiu kept on telling herself it was an accident, and then called for the sales department to deliver the file.

The meeting started at ten-thirty. Jing Lie never arrived early and always arrived right on time, even if it was his father attending today.

At ten twenty-five, the meeting room was already filled with people. Everyone who saw Fang Jiu would tease her.

“Ah, Secretary Fang looks pretty today. Got a boyfriend?” The old, bald man from the strategy department tried to touch her hand with a lecherous expression.

Fang Jiu quickly stepped back after putting down the file. She said with a light smile, “Is Department Head Liu saying I usually don’t look pretty before today?”

They did not expect this stern secretary to make a joke. The department heads around Department Head Liu all started laughing, “Secretary Fang, you’re having a good day, huh? You’re starting to make jokes!”

Fang Jiu smiled but did not reply. At this moment, the door of the meeting room was pushed open from the outside. A tall and steady silhouette came in, and the meeting room went silent in just an instant. Everyone stood up, smiled subserviently, and greeted, “Good morning, Chairman.”

The man who walked in looked like he was over forty-years-old. But men had a more attractive temperament the older they were. His handsome face looked similar to Jing Lie’s, and his dark skin-color made him seem tough and elegant. The limited-edition collectible watch on his wrist completely identified who he was.

The meeting room fell into a stern silence. The chairman, with a young man following him, sat down at the chair that was at the end of the table. He glanced around at everyone and suddenly looked at Fang Jiu, “Secretary Fang, where’s that boy?”

His indifferent glance gave her an anonymous shiver. Fang Jiu didn’t know that a male lead who got old would look like this… There was no difference between him and his younger version!

“Chairman, President… He might still be in the back,” Fang Jiu lowered her head because she didn’t know how to explain Jing Lie’s OCD.

Jing Cheng frowned. He was getting a bit angry as he waved his hand, “Tell him to come over, now.”

He, as Jing Lie’s father and the chairman of this company, was already here. Did that brat think he could arrive later than him?

Fang Jiu didn’t dare to directly phone call the president, so she walked back to get him. But when she walked to the corner of the hallway and turned around, she almost bumped into Jing Lie.

Almost. It was fortunate Fang Jiu stopped right in time.

“You should leave soon, Boss. The Chairman is waiting.” She stood at his side with a respectful gesture, not daring to lift her head.

Okay, she admitted that she was scared. She didn’t know how to seduce her boss.

Seeing her neck with the color of snow, which was exposed to the air when her hair moved, Jing Lie pursed his lips. With a meaningful look, he said, “I did not realize how young Secretary Fang is.”

TL’s Note: The son of a CEO also became a CEO, of course. ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
